Background Knowledge:

AfroFest Omaha is a rapidly growing cultural festival. The festival was founded in 2018 and developed by Africans living in Nebraska through the organization AfrOmaha, which has grown into a major Omaha celebration.

One of the best parts of AfroFest is the opportunity to experience the incredible diversity within African culture. With people representing different countries and cultures across Africa, as well as the Caribbean and other parts of the diaspora, the festival is a celebration of community, identity, and culture.

Here’s How We Would Spend Our Day At AfroFest

Experience Live Music and Attend THe Afterparty

The 2026 AfroFest headliner is Nigerian Afrobeats artist Ruger, with additional live performers, DJs, and cultural performances taking the stage throughout the festival.

Every year there’s an iconic after party, and this year the official AfroFest Afterparty will take place at Omaha Design Center! The afterparty is from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. This will give you several more hours to keep the music, dancing, and celebrations going.

Advance tickets are available online for $20, or tickets will be $30 at the door. With the festival ending at 10:00 p.m. and the Afterparty continuing until 1:00 a.m., you can easily make a full evening of dancing and submerging yourself in African culture.

Try Some African Food

One of the best ways to experience a culture is through its food, and AfroFest is sure to deliver. Festivalgoers can expect food representing different parts of Africa, with vendors showcasing authentic flavors and dishes from across the continent.

Shop the African Market

The African Market will feature vendors offering everything from African clothing and jewelry to accessories, artwork, crafts, cultural goods, and products from local entrepreneurs.

It’s a great opportunity to discover unique pieces you won’t find at a typical shopping center while also supporting small businesses and local creators.

AfroFest Omaha is an opportunity to spend the day experiencing music, food, fashion, art, culture, and community, and then keep the celebration going well into the night at the Afterparty. AfroFest Omaha is one local celebration you won’t want to miss!
